Mérida

About Mérida
What a better place to have our wedding than a city known as the “White City”? We picked Mérida because it is a beautiful city, full of the colonial heritage characteristic of Mexico.
Mérida is the capital city of the state of Yucatan, known as “White City” because of the large use of white limestone and white paint. It is rich in history and architecture, set on a grid and away from the ocean, but conveniently close to the Mayan Riviera.
Also, Yucatan Peninsula is a region we hold close to our hearts as we have created lovely memories here, and can’t wait to share the next BIG memory with you all!

Getting there
We know it’s going to take some time and effort to get there, but the place is magical and it’s so worth it.
To get to our wedding location, there are two airports to fly into:
Mérida (MID) – The airport in Mérida, is of course local. This is your best option if you are flying from Mexico City. You can easily get a taxi to take you to the hotel from the airport.
Cancun (CUN) – Cancun is the main airport in the Yucatan Peninsula. If flying from Europe, you can probably get a good deal on charter flights. Cancun is a 3-hour drive from Mérida, you can hire a car or jump on a local bus. Bus services run regularly throughout the day. You can find out more in the FAQ section

Getting around
In Mérida: Within the downtown area, all the places of interest are walking distance. If you are planning to go somewhere farther in the city you can take a cab. Your hotel can help you arrange it; you can also order one at most restaurants.

Things to do around Mérida
These are only our top picks of things we believe you MUST do during your stay, but by no means it’s supposed to be an exhaustive list. For further information please check the links we provided above.
Chichen Itza – Mérida was the main city and religious centre in the region for nearly 300 years, so the area is full of beautiful mayan ruins among which Chichen Itza is the best known site as it’s one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, and where Alessio proposed
Cenotes – Best description of a cenote would be something like a natural pool underground. Yeap, this is real. There are over 6,000 cenotes in the Yucatan area. One of the most famous, Il-Kil, is about 2 miles from Chichen Itza. It is a perfectly-round pool with beautiful hanging vines and waterfalls. Pack your swimsuit and a towel!
